Enjoy operas and concerts in spring. The Easter Festival has been part and parcel of the Salzburg culture for the last 40 years. Every year, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra returns to the city on the Salzach-River, with a new programme.
The Easter Festival in Salzburg was introduced in 1967 by Herbert von Karajan, a native of Salzburg, and presented the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra annually on the stage in Salzburg. Up until his death in 1989, Herbert von Karajan himself directed the Easter Festival. In 2011 Sir Simon Rattle will, once again, resume the musical direction.
